"DESIGNS THAT REFLECT OUR
AMERICAN HERITAGE"

Welcome to my blog. I'm probably very much like all of you who love the needlearts. My life revolves around family, friends, home and all things that help to make for a more contented life. When time allows; cooking, gardening, decorating, and collecting are my joys. I look forward to sharing all of these things with you. I also hope to keep you up to date on what is going on at Homespun Elegance, in regard to the needlework designs and the "Plain & Fancy Wares" that we offer.

Wishing you "Many Happy Stitches".

Avery's Stuff

Good Evening Everyone!
Some time ago I promised an update on the things
I have been making for Avery and his nursery.
Well, I think the nursery is finished.  We have had
the most wonderful time planning his nursery and
making it all happen.  Now, all we need is Avery.
Hollis is due 4 weeks from today, and according to
her,  not a moment too soon.  Me too, I just want to
meet this little guy.
~~~~~~~~~~
Here are some of my projects for Avery.
Everywhere you see something that had to be sewn
by machine, I have to thank my wonderful friend Ethel.
I did all of the hand work and then she put it together
for me.
Three little bears made out of a sample of decorator
fabric.  The colors were just perfect.
I cut all of the birds from wonderful scrap booking
papers and hung them from a branch from our woods.
When the fan is on they move just slightly.  They
have different papers on each side, so hopefully
he will be fascinated by them.
The fabric Hollis chose for his room has tiny butter cream
dots.  I used them as my guide and did rows of
Colonial Knots within the outline stitched "A".
Then I hand quilted the three layers together.  It was
my first quilt.
The receiving blanket is reversible flannel,
with polka dots on one side and stripes on the
other.  An outline stitch was used for his name.
Hollis found this neat rack, but of course the finish
just wouldn't do.  So I used the wall paint and rubber
stamped the rest.
The stool was so much fun to do.  I am thinking of
doing this as a cross stitch pattern.  What do you think?
And here is his room. A real labor of love.
 Sasha., Hollis' cat, loves his room, but will
she love Avery!!  I think we may have a
jealous cat on our hands.  The beautiful dust
ruffle and sheet were made by Ethel.
Another view.
Here is the top of the sweet armoire that Hollis found.
Isn't the detailing great?  When
she bought it the finish was white with pink feet.
Needless to say, it had to be painted.
Hope you enjoyed my little tour.  Not exactly cross
stitch related,  but now you know why I haven't had as
many new designs as usual.
I'll be back with cross stitch next time.
Many Happy Stitches,
Sandra
  7. Oh, that little Avery will have such a soft and soothing room. All of your creations are adorable, Sandra! I especially love the little bird mobile--it's simplicity and design are wonderful.
    Yes, the stool would be a very fun stitching pattern--I'll bet it would make a darling birth sampler :)
    The babies room is so cute. I love the stool and I do think it would make a cute cross stitch design. I love the turtle in it. I hope you will do a design of it. Pat
  12. Oh, wonderful! I especially love the sweet quilt. :D Oh, and the bears! Really, I love it all! There are some baby rooms that I'd totally love to live in! :D And this is one of them. (This is probably because I love pastels and muted tones; and also whimsical things.)
  13. I love Avery's room! I love the muted colours used. It makes things so soothing to the eye. My favourite thing in the room is that bird mobile. It's just so unique! The stool is very cute as well and would make an awesome cross stitch design. There's a lot of love that went into putting this room together. Well done!
