"DESIGNS THAT REFLECT OUR
AMERICAN HERITAGE"

Welcome to my blog. I'm probably very much like all of you who love the needlearts. My life revolves around family, friends, home and all things that help to make for a more contented life. When time allows; cooking, gardening, decorating, and collecting are my joys. I look forward to sharing all of these things with you. I also hope to keep you up to date on what is going on at Homespun Elegance, in regard to the needlework designs and the "Plain & Fancy Wares" that we offer.

Wishing you "Many Happy Stitches".

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween Everyone!
I hope all of you have some fun plans
for tonight.  We live right far off of the
street and the houses are not very close
together, so we never have very many
Trick or Treaters.  When our children
were small, we always had Halloween
parties so they could get together.
I have a picture to share of me with Cameron
and Hollis before one of the Halloween
parties.  Hollis was almost three
and Cameron was seven.
(I can't believe how old I am.)
They were so cute.  I always tried to
make their costumes and I definitely
made these.  I was always a hobo.
You can see some of the food on the table.  I
had a big galvanized tub that we used to
bob for apples.  Somewhere I have a
picture of Hollis attempting that.  Now I am
so germ crazy, I would never allow my
kids to do that.
If you look between me and Hollis, you
will see one of the first designs I did.
There were two pies in the leaflet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now, the funny thing is Avery has never
really liked Halloween.  He screamed
and screamed when he was one.  Hated
being put in the costume.  Last year
he was a golfer and refused to wear the
hat.  He didn't understand what
Halloween was, so when he got to
someones door (the neighbors), he
wanted to walk in and when Hollis
wouldn't let him he started crying.
Hollis is hoping that this will be
his first fun Halloween.  He said he wanted
to be a Ghost/Witch ~whatever that is.
She got him a Witch hat and he loved
that.  Got him a ghost costume and he
refused to wear it.  So, she got a black
pillow case and I cut out the neck and
the sleeves and this is how he looked
tonight.
He loved every second of Trick or Treating.
Did not want to stop!
 Back at home with his haul.
The caption should be
"Mine~all mine"
Hope you have time to enjoy
Good News!
GOOD NEWS!
For those of you who have been waiting for my
new designs, they are winging their way
to my Autos and my Distributors.
Yeah!
Here they are in all their glory~
CINNAMON STICK SANTA XXV
"Belsnickle Chimney Santa"
NO. 241
$12.00
Can you believe I have done 25 of this series!!!
I've given you a look at the full cover
and some closeups.
FABRICS USED
Weeks' 20 Count "Putty" for the pillow and the
Hanging Pouch.
R and R's "18th Century Brown" for the ornament
All were stitched with a variety of fibers, including
Wisper for the beard.
The tinsel trim will be available in my ETSY Shoppe.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 IMPORTANT!
As of yesterday I found out the "Grunge" pom pom
fringe that I used on the Hanging Pocket is no
longer available in that color, or at least for the
present time.  Elizabeth, of Dames Of The Needle,
is working really hard to achieve the same color,
but because of a change in the fiber content,
it will not dye the same way.  So until further
notice, you will have to substitute a favorite
trim of your own.  I might suggest the "Grunge"
rick rack that she carries- 1/4" or 1/2".
MISTAKE IN CREDITS
I said the rick rack on the pillow is
1/2", when in fact it is 1".  I am sorry for that
and will change it in the next printing.
Enough bad news ~ on to the good stuff!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
COUNTRY SPIRITS COLLECTION
"Oh Joyful Acorn"
Hanging Pouch
CS-94
$6.50
It is stitched on Weeks' 20 Count "Putty"
using a variety of fibers.
The Autumn buttons are available from me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
PURELY SAMPLERS COLLECTION
"Christmas Trees 'A Plenty Button Sampler"
PS-56
$9.00
It is stitched on R & R's 32 Count
"Classic Homespun".  This is a fabric that was
dyed for me and I am really happy with it.
It is going to come in a bunch of
stitch counts, including 18, which is going
to be so much fun.
You will need four Olde Brass "Tree" buttons,
a little "Warm and Natural" batting (which I
coffee dyed) and some buttons of yours.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The designs are available in my ETSY Shoppe now.
I will be putting the tinsel trim and the Autumn
buttons in soon. The Tree buttons are already
there in the SUPPLY SECTION.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I sure hope you see something you like and
will enjoy

Autumn in Virginia

Hi Everyone!
Taking a break from all the work.  Such a beautiful
day here in Virginia, I thought I would
share all of my wonderful pumpkins
and their great stems with you.
Do you get excited about stems that way
I do.  If it doesn't have a great stem,
then I do not want it.
Hope you enjoy!
 A great stem! Don't you agree?
 Don't you love that enormous
Butternut Squash!!!
 Look at that stem.  Oh my goodness!  The
best yet!
The leaves are starting to fall, the temperatures are
starting to fall, I guess it is Fall~
Hope you had a great Fall  day~ I did!

A Few Goodies

Good Afternoon!
Hope all is well with you.  I'm taking a wee
break from typing the copy for my
Cinnamon Stick Santa publication.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
ALL BOXES SOLD!!!
Thank you so much~
I have three really pretty grained Shaker Pantry
boxes to be used for your needlework.  You can
simply store your needle wares in it or you can do that
plus stitch a wonderful pin cushion top.  If you
don't want to stitch a pin cushion then make a
 pin cushion out of some great olde coverlet piece
or vintage fabric of your choice ~ whatever
your little heart desires.
I grained these boxes myself!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I only have two large boxes
and one smaller box.  In the past I have had
some trouble with people emailing me that
they want something and then never pay.
Therefore, if someone wants one of these
boxes, I will mark it as PENDING and
give you until the next day when we close, which is
5:00 EST, to get your payment
information to me.  You can call me at 540-371-6377 or
email me with your info. I take Visa, Mastercard,
and Paypal.
If I don't have your info by then,
I will release it again.  I hate to do this, but
I've held orders for a long time and have
never heard back.
Hope you understand.

Window on Autumn

Good Evening Everyone!
Autumn is definitely here.  I told you
this morning that we were having
rain and more rain today.  The
result is a soggy mess with
leaves everywhere.  The temperatures
are suppose to start dropping soon.
Even though it is a mess and I don't
like the thought of tons of leaves
everywhere, I just love Autumn
and all the decorating that goes with
it.  Just so warm and comforting.
Here is my kitchen bay window
which I love to decorate
for the seasons.
Here it is decked out in all
of its Autumn glory.  Love
my collection of yellow ware -
just perfect for this time of year.

Punch Needle

Good Morning!
Hope all is well wherever you are.  I made
it home from Richmond this morning before
the heavens opened up.  We are going
to have a really soggy day in Virginia.
The leaves are really going to fall ~ clogging
up the gutters and the drains.  Oh joy!
At least it isn't snow!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone seems to be getting a little
more interested in
Punch Needle.
Thought I would take a few minutes
to share some of my little punch
needle designs.  These are small, so
they are great for any beginners
out there.  Just enough detail to make
it interesting.  Hope you like them.
"BLACKIE"
 "FOLK ART SANTA"
 "LANDSCAPE RUG"
 "NATIVITY"
 "OH GLORIOUS NIGHT"
 "WOOLSEY AND FRIENDS"
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope you like them.  They all come with the
printed fabric.  The embellishments are not included.
$13.75 (includes the shipping)

Almost !

Hi Everyone!
Hope you are all well and enjoying the great
Autumn temperatures.  We have had some
really pretty days, but the last few have
been a rainy mess.  Leaves are falling
everywhere, as well as the acorns.
The maples and the dogwoods are always
the first to show their glorious colors and
they are just starting.  Just beautiful!
We had wonderful company this weekend.
Avery, Hollis, and Paul were here.
So much fun.  Lots of good food, good
times, and good fun with our favorite little guy.
Hated to see them go home.  Of course, when
they go, that means I have to go back to
work.  Trying so hard to get my
"CINNAMON STICK SANTA"
and
"CHRISTMAS TREES 'A PLENTY"
but still not quite there.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Before I send them out for finishing,
I wanted to share with you again.
 There is a third design in Cinnamon Stick,
but it is not back from the stitcher yet.
Waiting anxiously!
As you can see I am going to use the sweet
Pompom trim again.  Just love it!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
So hope these will be part of your
Christmas stitching.  Be back soon with the
finished pieces.

Some Great Finishes!

Hi Everyone!
If you have known me for very long, you
know my wonderful friend Faye, who has worked
with me for 20+ years.
In the last few days she has brought some of
her beautiful stitching to show me, which
just so happens to be my designs.
These are great gifts for some special friends.
I just knew you would love to see them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
from
"SANTAS 'A PLENTY I"
from
"A MERRY OLDE SOUL"
and
from my
Halloween Collection Year
"DING DONG"
All of these were stitched on
20 Count "Putty" by Weeks Dye Works and
embellished with buttons from her collection.
The "Heart" charms around the sheep necks and
the "Mouse" charm are mine.  She added
the sweet stitched snow flakes to both Santas.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is so much fun to share finishes!

Do You Need A Smile~

Good Evening Everyone!
Just in case you need a smile or a little laugh,
I thought I might be able to make that happen.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since we are all getting ready for Halloween,
Avery thinks he should be getting ready too.
He is three years old and seems to be
excited about Halloween.  He wanted
nothing to do with it - no costume, no treats,
nothing until now.  So everyone
is looking forward to a fun time this year.
He says he wants to be a Ghost-Witch.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hollis and I took him to a little market
the other day that had a wonderful
selection of pumpkins.  Just the
right amount for him to play around.
Just need to share, hope you don't mind.
Jumping for joy!!!
 Pumpkins as big as he is~
So excited!!!
 With Mommy
So sweet!
