Hi Everyone!
Are you melting like I am? So over this disgusting
weather. We are suppose to get a break from the
heat in a day or so, but it will probably come along
with some nasty storms. I'll take it as long as the
wind isn't too bad. The yard to screaming for a good
watering, but there is no point in doing that now.
My potted plants are OK because I'm watering
about every other day ~ so so far so good for them.

It has been a while since my last post. I don't know
where the time goes, but it does. Faye has been
on vacation this week (lucky thing - but she deserves
it), so I'm holding down the fort alone and not
doing it very well. Unfortunately, the first thing to go
when I'm running out of time is the Blog, but I
must fill you in on the progress I have made
on the
MARKING SAMPLER.
Slowly but surely I am moving along. I only
get to work on it for a very little while at night.
At this rate it will be a few more months
before it is finished, but I love it. It is going to
be fantastic hanging over the bed in my
guest bedroom. Cannot wait.
This is where I was when I first shared it.
And this is where I am now. I cannot wait to get
to the next row of letters.
This is the antique sampler. I didn't choose a
fabric as yellow/gold as the original, because of
where I want to hang it. But since it is only one
color you will be able to make it whatever you want.
Another interesting thing about this sampler is that
the J, K, W, X, and Y are missing. I am not a
sampler historian. Does this give a clue as to
how old it is or where it was stitched? If you
know, would you please share.
The original post was on June 20th. So you can see
it has taken me nearly a month to get this far. Pathetic,
I know. In the original post, I said if you
"comment" each time on the Blog when I do an
update, you will be put in a drawing for a copy
of the design and something else. So, if you wish to
try to win, just give me a quick "comment".

Its looking lovely, the soft and muted color is gorgeous. Just tell yourself that some progress is better than no progress, and stitching the sampler isn't a race, enjoy and savor the process.
ReplyDeleteWas so good to talk with you today my Friend ~

ReplyDeleteIt's looking really good! I love the soft color.
ReplyDeleteIt's Hot here in the south too, plus we need rain!
Have been waiting for a progress report!! Love the muted tones on this one. It will be gorgeous once completed. Not sure about the letters other than the fact that most "old" samplers are missing the J. Stay cool if you can!
ReplyDeleteI am a nut for marking samplers. Love the colors of thread and linen you are stitching yours with. I am looking forward to following your progress on this one.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you about the age of this sampler. But i do know that stitchers were very practical in those days....they only stitched those letters they would use in marking the linens in theirs closets.
ReplyDeleteSo no J because they used a I back then, and a W is a double V.
Hope this will help you.
It's looking good.
ReplyDeleteI think you are making great progress - such a beautiful sampler - hope you have air conditioning where you are, its hot here in Taiwan too :{
ReplyDeleteYour sampler is coming along nicely. Looking forward to the next update :)

You are making nice progress. I'm usually a golden/yellow lover, but really like the taupe-y color you've chosen.

ReplyDeleteSandra, Your sampler is going to be beautiful! I have always thought that "tone on tone" embroidery is very elegant. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteLove it so far. Can't wait to see it finished.
ReplyDeleteI love the softness of this sampler.
ReplyDeleteIt is coming along beautifully. Being as busy as you are and trying to enjoy your leisure time, I think your progress is great.

Sandra, I really like the colors you have chosen. Slow but steady. Wonderful things are worth the wait.
ReplyDeleteThis is so going to be worth the wait--and I think the colors look perfect--even though I am a big fan of golden colored threads. Maybe by the time I'm finished with Lucy Redd you'll be finished with this!!
ReplyDeleteThis sampler is really lovely. I love the look. I think that this may be an Italian sampler with those missing letters. You have chosen a beautiful combination of colors
ReplyDeleteI have always heard that the older samplers were missing one or all of the letters you mentioned. It's a beautiful effort.
ReplyDeleteGreat progress - your sampler is looking wonderful, love the color of fabric and thread you have chosen!
