"DESIGNS THAT REFLECT OUR
AMERICAN HERITAGE"

Welcome to my blog. I'm probably very much like all of you who love the needlearts. My life revolves around family, friends, home and all things that help to make for a more contented life. When time allows; cooking, gardening, decorating, and collecting are my joys. I look forward to sharing all of these things with you. I also hope to keep you up to date on what is going on at Homespun Elegance, in regard to the needlework designs and the "Plain & Fancy Wares" that we offer.

Wishing you "Many Happy Stitches".

A Very Trying Week!

Hi Everyone!
I hope everyone had a better week than I had.
It was a real bear.  I really don't like to be
negative and complain too much on my blog, but
I do want you to understand why my designing /
production level has not been up to par of late.
This past week was just the crowning blow.  On
Monday Avery got sick and we had to take him to
the emergency room at 11:00 at night, Hollis had
 some medical issues earlier in the day and then,
I began to suffer with a recurring problem that I
have been dealing with since April.  All is well
with Hollis and Avery is recovering from some
nasty virus/bacterial thing that resulted in two
ear infections.  The way he was coughing and
crying that night I thought he had whooping
cough and it scared me to death.  Grammie
overreacting, but he was in terrible pain and
so sick.  He needed to be seen immediately.
It is just amazing how quickly they can go
from being OK to that.  He had a slight cough
on Sunday and Monday night it mushroomed.
As for me, I have been dealing with a nerve problem
 in my right arm and wrist (Ulnar Nerve Compression),
that starting with tingling in my little finger and next
finger.  This all began in April.  A few days after
it began I developed an excruciating pain that
went up my arm into my shoulder.  When this
is occurring I can do nothing but try to deal
with the pain.  Working on the computer is
impossible because I cannot reach to the keyboard
or move the mouse without sending it into orbit.
Unfortunately, I am the only one who designs,
graphs, types up the publications, prints them, etc.
The end result of this is probably going to be
surgery of some sort.  I had the nerve study done
and it was inconclusive, so the next step will be
 an MRI on my wrist and neck.  Everything takes
forever, I have to wait three more weeks before
seeing the Doctor again.  I am calling tomorrow to
see if they can at least set up the appointment
for the MRI's.
This week the pain has been the worst and lasted
the longest period of time.  Had to start taking
some real hard core pain medicine.
With that, I'm a little groggy but can function.
Sorry to go on and on.  I hope you will bear with
me and be patient if orders are late and my designs
are not forthcoming as quickly as usual.  I will
keep you informed.  Old age is really the pits!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
On the bright side, my
2012 Annual Christmas Ornaments
are stitched and ready to be made into ornaments,
so I wanted to share a little glimpse of them with you.
Once again I am the one to put these together.  Never
ending problem here.
The first of my "A Halloween Year" is finished, so that
will be ready to ship soon.
"Many Happy Stitches",
Sandra
  2. Sandra, I'm so sorry you are feeling poorly. I hope you get in for your MRI soon and doctor(s) figure out what's wrong so they can fix it and you can get back to your normal daily activities without pain. Glad to hear your husband is better and Avery is recovering. Take care. BTW, Love the new ornament designs! They definitely will be on my stitch list!
  3. Sandra I am so sorry you aren't feeling well. Old age is the PITS!! I am waiting for an appt with my doctor to find out what I need to do after my fractured femur caused by taking fosamax for osteoporsis. It caused your bones to become brittle after being on it over a year. I was on it for over 5 years that is why landing on my knee after I overturned my ankle it broke so easily.... I go back to the orthopedic doctor on Thursday and I think I need to go to PT. My leg is still really swollen and stiff. I hope you don't need surgery.
    On a happy note I am loving your new things. When will they be released. I am adding them to my list to give to Debbie at stitch n stuff....
  4. Thank you everyone! I hope I don't need surgery because if I do, I will really be out of commission for some time. Trying not to think about it. Pat, I cannot believe you have been having problems because of fosamax. I am taking that too. Guess I need to talk to someone about that. I love the way you take medicine for something only to have it mess up something else. Thanks to everyone for liking my new ornaments. I hope to have them out in 3 or 4 weeks, depending on my situation. Take care everyone and Many Happy Stitches, Sandra
  6. It's so hard to watch a little one get sicker and sicker... Sure hope Avery is all better very soon. And Sandra, I do hope you don't have to face surgery. My husband is facing it for nerve damage in his feet and is just dreading it... Good luck to you :)
  7. I am so sorry to read about your trials. I can somewhat sympathize with your arm problems; over a year ago, I developed tendinitis in my shoulder. I finally had a cortisone injection, and it helped at first, but then I overdid and was back in bad pain. Now I'm just trying to take it easy, but it is so difficult since the affected arm is my dominant one. I hope you can have that MRI soon and get some definitive answers. Sometimes the not knowing is more difficult than facing the solution (if that makes sense!)
  8. Hi Ginny,
    I hope you can rest your arm and shoulder until it heals. I know it takes a long time for tendinitis to get better. My problem is with my dominant side too, so everything I do seems to affect it. I will be making my MRI appointment today, so will find out soon. Thanks for your concern.
  10. I'm so sorry to hear of your recent health issue. I hope it is resolved soon and that surgery can be avoided. Glad to hear that Avery is on the mend too. Take care!
  11. I just stumbled upon your blog and had to tell you my son had that surgery last summer and he is only 23. It seems to be an occupational hazard from computer work. He is a computer engineer. He also went through all the tests and physical therapy prior to surgery. They didn't know until they began the surgery if it was to be the simple version or the more complicated. They only needed to do the lesser one. I've heard of so many people with this problem lately, I have to wonder if it's the new carpal tunnel surgery of years past...affecting the elbow instead of the hand.
    I wanted to say how much I love your designs and your blog, that I've silently read from the beginning, or close.
    Take care.
  14. I'm sorry to hear that things have been so stressful for you. Health issues are the worst...especially with little ones. We ended up at Urgent Care with my 2 year-old earlier this summer -- poor little bug spent the better part of a Saturday crying and clingy before Mommy lost it and called the doctor. Turned out to be "just" strep, and not much the doctor could really do, but still, I felt awful for not recognizing the seriousness of the problem sooner.
    On a happier note, the Christmas ornaments look great! And is that a Santa I spy in the left-hand ornie? I did "Jingle Jingle" last year for my daughter, and am trying to do an annual Santa-themed ornament for her!
