Welcome to my blog. I'm probably very much like all of you who love the needlearts. My life revolves around family, friends, home and all things that help to make for a more contented life. When time allows; cooking, gardening, decorating, and collecting are my joys. I look forward to sharing all of these things with you. I also hope to keep you up to date on what is going on at Homespun Elegance, in regard to the needlework designs and the "Plain & Fancy Wares" that we offer.

Wishing you "Many Happy Stitches".

Serious Decorating Time

Good Afternoon Everyone!
I hope I have a better afternoon today than
I had a few days ago.  After doing a little Christmas
shopping, I was on my way home, when I was
rear ended at a yield sign.  If you have been reading
my blog for a while, you know that Hollis and
I were in an accident Labor Day.  I am still going to
physical therapy for that.  To add insult to injury,
it was our new car that was hit.  Significant damage
to the rear of the car.  It is drivable but the
trunk is unusable.  I was so upset that day I
was just worthless.  My mood is better today,
and physically I am OK, just a little stiff and sore.
I am so thankful for that.  Emotionally not so good -
beginning to feel like a target.  Trying to put it all
behind me and get on with my decorating
and some more shopping.
So, I thought I would share a view pictures
of the things I have put up so far.  The
real greens will come later so they will be
fresh closer to the big day.
Basket filled with "vintage" goodies.  I love
the little feather tree in the old shoe.  How cute
are the little red buttons.  The cross stitch design
is one of Hollis'.
"Vintage" ornaments are on this feather tree.
This is a mismatched set.  I have been collecting these
nativity pieces for years and just keep adding my
This is a Victorian Christmas tree.  I found it in an
antique shop in Fredericksburg years ago.  Have
you ever seen one before?  I've never seen another
one.  The tree is made of wire, and then there are
glass beads, glass ornaments, and other tiny
embellishments.  Click on the picture for a
close up.
I'll share some more pictures soon.
Hope you are having a wonderful day.  Please
be careful when out and about.  Everyone is in
such a hurry.
Merry Stitches,

  1. Oh, I am so sorry to hear that you're having more tough driving times! the goodies you've shared are beautiful (I've never seen a "Victorian" tree before...)

I've had a year, too, that made me feel like I was "under siege" emotionally-- one of the things that helped me was all natural soaps that I bought from Besem. You can get them via etsy or direct by email (which I usually do 'cause I want more than a set of three.

My favorites are Lavender and Old Hippie (Even though I usually dislike (Lavender and Patchouli scents!), as well as Granola Bar. Sweet Anisette is very useful for facial cleansing, and you can even brush your teeth with the ultimate bar! Dear Marc loves their Rustic Pine (which is also great for this season!)

    Their site (scent list): http://www.besemnaturalscents.com/besemnaturalscents/Scents.html

    Here is the Etsy:

Just as a disclaimer I'm not affiliated with Wendy in any way, I heard about her soaps from my dear blogging friend Edgar!

I hope you'll consider trying some natural soaps and also that you'll be able to relax and enjoy the season! :)

  2. Oh, Sandra, I'm so sorry to hear that you're having more car accident problems...I would be feeling like a moving target, too. I hope this is the last one now and that your car can be repaired successfully.

Thank you for sharing your Christmas decorating with us. I truly love all the Nativity pieces that you've collected through the years--just stunning...

Take care now and I wish you and your family a delightful Christmas season!

  3. Oh Sandra, how miserable that you have gone through this again! I hope you're not feeling too badly. I'm thankful that you weren't seriously hurt. After all, a car can be replaced but you can't!
I'm a little nervous myself. Today we're having freezing rain and I have to drive about 45 min after work to return home. I'm going to try and take the back roads where there's not as much traffic.
Your decorations are gorgeous! I love all the vintage decor. That Victorian tree is really unique!

  4. I'm so sorry to hear about the latest accident and thankful that you were not seriously hurt. It doesn't sound like it slowed you down any as your decorating is lovely. Now that I have seen your feather tree, I think I may need to find one for myself...just love the look. Hope you continue to recover, both physically and mentally. Happy Holidays!

  5. I'm sorry to hear of your accident. Were you hurt at all?? Not a good time of year for such a happening.
Your decorations are wonderful, it's a great time of year. I'm enjoying viewing all the wonderful and festive blogs. I must tell you the feather tree is my favorite tree, we put one up also, filled with both vintage and some new ornaments. Have a wonderful holiday and I hope your not injured from the accident.

  6. Sandra, I had been wondering how you were...it's been a while since you left such a nice comment on my blog. My goodness, I'm so sorry you've been in another accident. We've been going thru the same thing here. Thankfully, no one was hurt and the lady that hit us waited for us in the parking lot. Bringing me to believe there are still a lot of good people in the world! And that has helped a lot mentally.

Your decorating is beautiful and I hope it brings you as much pleasure as you give. I'll be keeping good thoughts for you!

  7. Sandra, how awful! Another accident adn in your new car. So glad you weren't injured.
Your decorating is so lovely! Wish you would decorate for me, I can't get in the mood this year.
Can you tell me please about Hollis' piece in your first photo? I'm stitching that one right now & have never used Whisper Threads before. I'm a bit disappointed. Is that what you used? Perhaps you could give me some pointers, I must be doing something wrong.
    Merry Christmas and hugs
