"DESIGNS THAT REFLECT OUR
AMERICAN HERITAGE"

Welcome to my blog. I'm probably very much like all of you who love the needlearts. My life revolves around family, friends, home and all things that help to make for a more contented life. When time allows; cooking, gardening, decorating, and collecting are my joys. I look forward to sharing all of these things with you. I also hope to keep you up to date on what is going on at Homespun Elegance, in regard to the needlework designs and the "Plain & Fancy Wares" that we offer.

Wishing you "Many Happy Stitches".

A Reprint

Good Afternoon Everyone!
Two posts in one day ~~  I know you think I have lost
it, but I have to do these things when I have time.
  So here goes.
"COVERLETS AND BIRDS"
Do you like coverlets?  Do you like birds?
I surely do.
I did this design a very long time ago.  The
large piece hangs in my guest bedroom and I have
never tired of it.  The frame is a treasure, but
unfortunately is no loner available.  It came from
 a catalogue company named
"Neat and Tidy".  I loved their stuff.  It was one
of the first companies that offered wonderful
grained painted items.  I nearly lost my mind
when it showed up in my mail box.  This frame
is not only grained but the hearts are carved.
The small frame is one that I can do ~ a
red wood grain.
Anyone, this design is available again.  It would
be stunning stitched on a heavily distressed
linen with a great over-dyed floss.
If you are interested, just call or email me.
I will be putting it in my ETSY shoppe too.
$10.00 + $1.50 shipping
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope you have a great evening.
Many Happy Stitches,
Sandra
Funky Blue Bird
Good Morning Everyone!!
Do you love crocks as much as I do?
Here are some pictures of those in my
collection.
 "Funky Blue Bird" Pillow
~~~TIS SOLD~~~
Thank you Pam!
Here is a pillow I painted based on an old crock.
  Unfortunately, that crock is not in my collection,
one that I could never afford.  Hand-painted using
fabric paints on even-weave jute (which is a much
nicer quality than your run-of-the-mill jute), and
mounted on wool felt.  The back is the same wool felt.
Measures a generous 11" High X 10" Wide.
It is lightly stuffed with polyfil.
~~~$38.00 which includes the shipping~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope she will find a nice home soon - I
say "she" because she has fancy tail feathers.
If you like her, just call or email me.  She will
also be added to my ETSY site soon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Many Happy Stitches,
Sandra
Thought You'd Like to Know. . .
Hi Everyone!
Do you love emeries as much as I do?  Thank goodness
I started collecting them years ago because now when
I occasionally see one, they are out of my price range.
Here is my little collection.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
There will be an announcement about a new
collection soon.  Stay tuned!
This has nothing to do with the above, but if
you saw my sneak peak about "Crow Patriotic"
earlier this week, that design was based on one
of my paintings.  Months ago I offered some
paper mache boxes with the print decoupaged
on the top.  I sold all of them, but came across
two more boxes so I made them again.  I am
keeping my eyes open for more boxes, but
no luck so far.  I guess I could use a different box.
 I'll see what I can come up with.  Anyway, if you
are interested, email or call me.
They are $15.00 which includes the shipping.
I take Paypal, Mastercard, Visa, and checks.
BOTH SOLD
Thank you!!
Please note the difference in the stencil borders.
Specify "Swag" on the first box and "Garland"
on the one above.
Must go fix dinner now.
Many Happy Stitches,
Sandra
Avery Says "Good Morning"
Good Morning All!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Can you imagine how much fun it is to be greeted
by this cute thing in the morning?  It sure helps
get your morning going in the right direction.
His dad, Paul, took this the other day.  I'd say
he was happy to see him.
Look at that strawberry blond hair, bright blue
eyes, and pink cheeks.
Going to hate those pink cheeks one of
these days, but for now they are the best.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope to be back later in the day with some
more stuff to share.
Many Happy Stitches,
Sandra

A Little Glimpse

Good Evening Everyone!
Hope you are all fine and enjoying this amazing
Spring weather.  My only regret is that all of the
daffodils are gone - this is way too early for our
area.  Everything is blooming at the same time.
Very strange indeed!
~~~~~~~~~~~
Wanted to share a little glimpse of some new designs
on the way ~
A wee baby sampler and a new series featuring birds.
 CROW PATRIOTIC
This is the summer bird. You will have plenty of time
 to get this done for the 4th.
BABY PROTECTORS BIRTH SAMPLER
As you can see, there will be a boy and a girl version.
The cartouche will have room for the name and
birth date.  Just the sweetest little sentiment for a
special baby.
 SERENITY PRAYER
This is a reprint of an older design that has been out
of print for a while.   I love this saying and think
it will always be relevant and meaningful, especially
in the world today.  This will be listed in my
ETSY Shoppe tonight.  If you do not do ETSY,
just give me a call or email me.  It is
$10.50 which includes the shipping.
Well, that is all for tonight.
Many Happy Stitches,
Sandra
Coming Soon!
Good Evening Everyone!
I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend.
It has been absolutely beautiful in Virginia.  We
just had a nice visit from our son, Cameron.
He came to work on my computers (poor thing -
he has such an idiot for a Mother), but we
did get to spend some quality time sitting out
on the patio in the back yard.  The weather is
stunning, but my backyard and the garden
borders are awful.  Lots of work ahead to whip
them in shape.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Before I start getting ready to head back to
Richmond, I wanted to share with you my two
designs that will ship to distributors and
automatic shoppes mid week.
Hope you like them.  They are sweet little
designs for the celebrations that are coming
soon ~ weddings and graduations.
Very quick stitches with just the right
sentiment.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
PETITE GRADUATION SAMPLER
A graduation sampler that even has the initials
of the high school or college.
Retail $7.50
Stitched on 28 Count "Lambswool" using DMC.
I embellished it with my "Tiny Black" button and
mounted in my 5 X 7 Brown Swirled Grain
frame.
 PETITE WEDDING SAMPLER
Very sweetly embellished with "Vintage"
crocheted edging and my "Heartlet" brass
charm.  This will also fit in a 5 X 7 frame.
Includes surname initial and initials of the
bridge and groom.
Retail $7.50
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Both of these should be available in your
favorite shoppe very soon.  I will be putting
them in my ETSY shoppe later, so they will
be available to you if you cannot find them
Just let me know if I can help you.
Have a great week.
Many Happy Stitches,
Sandra

Too Cute!

Hi Everyone!
I just couldn't resist sending an Avery picture.
He is getting so big that he has outgrown his
baby bath towels, the ones with the hood.
So sad in a way - I hate giving up these baby things.
<<>>
I was there for his bath the other night and we
needed something to dry his hair and this
is what was readily available - a burp cloth.
I love the way he is peeking out.  Look at
that tummy.  He is going to hate me one
day for all of these great pictures.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have a great day.  I'll be back home tonight
and hope to be showing you some new
things this weekend.
Many Happy Stitches,
Sandra
A Special Finish
Good Evening Everyone!
I just had to take a few minutes and show you this
sweet finish of my
FIRST LIGHT PRAYER.
This was stitched by Joy.  If you have the time
you should go to her lovely Blog
Isn't this beautiful?  She softened the colors to match
the taste of her youngest granddaughter.   Thank
you Joy for sharing this with me.
~~~~~~~~~~
Here is my stitched model~
What a difference, but both pretty in their
own way.
I will be adding this sweet design to my ETSY
shoppe tonight.  The frame and the Olde
Brass "Heart" button are available from me
as well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have a great evening.
Many Happy Stitches,
Sandra
A Little Glimpse
Good Evening Everyone!
I hope you have had a wonderful weekend.
Mine has been busy but productive and I am
happy for that.  It was really hard though to stay
in and work when it was so pretty outside.
It is going to be an unbelievably warm week
in Virginia - reaching 80 degrees.  Can you
believe that!
Wanted to let you see something I am working
on just in case you have an impending graduation
or wedding.  Two sweet little designs to honor
your loved ones.
Spring Things
Good Afternoon Everyone!
It is a delightful Spring day here in Virginia.
The daffodils are blooming everywhere in my
yard, so I had to pick some the other day
to take to Hollis and to put in the house.
Thought I would share some pictures of a
little Spring decorating - very little I might
add, but it was time for the pine cones to be
put away for another year.
 This is my Necessary Room as you can tell from
the cross stitch.   I thought I would add a little lion
and sheep - in like a lion, out like a lamb.  Luckily
the lion did not do his job this year, although we
have had a little dusting of snow this week.
 I'm getting ready for cookie making days with Avery.
Unfortunately, I have to wait until next year, but we
will be ready with my birds, bunnies, and sheep
cutters.  I do this window almost the same way each
year.  I am really becoming a creature of habit, or
maybe it's because I love the same stuff.
 I love this heart hanging with the little bottle added
to it.  This hangs in the kitchen with whatever
flower, herb, or greenery that happens to be
in season.
 My sheep molds on top of my pie safe.
I really do love my sheep.  Please don't look too
closely, it is a real pain to dust this shelf.  Blue
is a good color for ignoring dust as long as possible.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just thought I would let you know that I am adding
"PRIMITIVE LANDSCAPE"
to Etsy sometime today.  If you don't use Etsy,
just give us a call or email us.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Plus, I am adding a scissor fob ~
PINEAPPLE WITH INITIAL
The PINEAPPLE WITH INITIAL is a special
order because of the hand-painted initial.
The print is decoupaged on a wooden heart, then
I paint the initial and reseal.  The black cord is
included.
It measures 2 2/3" X 1 1/2".
$13.50 -  includes shipping.
I take Paypal, MC, Visa, and personal checks.
Once again, if you do not do ETSY, just give
us a call or email us.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back to work for me.
Many Happy Stitches,
Sandra

Using Antiques

Good Afternoon Everyone!
Hope you are having a great Sunday afternoon.
I am working on the beginning stages of my website.
Not fun work but something I have to do and it will be
so exciting when it is done.  I think it is going to take
a couple months to load all of the products.  Wish me
luck and more hours in the day ~ I'm going to
need both.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I was at Hollis' on Friday, this caught my eye.
When I had my shoppe and had the time, I liked
to incorporate needlework with antiques.  This
was for sale for only a short time because Hollis
saw it and fell in love with it.  Naturally, it
managed to make its way to her house.
A wonderful old match and brush holder that
was missing whatever picture was in the opening.
Aha I thought, a great place to tuck a little cross stitch.
That little sampler is from one of my publications
called "Crowning Glory".
So, when you are out on your antiquing trips,
always keep your eyes open for ways to
incorporate that special piece of needlework,
and you will have a treasure all your own.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I still have antique and vintage items that I
planned to do something with but never got
around to.  Do you think you would be
interested in items like this?  Let me know
what you think.
Wishing you a happy day with
"Many Happy Stitches"

What A Deal!

Good Morning everyone!
Thanks for all of your comments on our little
Avery.  He is such a sweet little thing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
You won't believe this, but it is going to be
70+ degrees today.  This weather is just
not right.  My daffodils are blooming and
all the weeds in my yard are coming up.
I need a few more weeks of winter so I
don't have to add yard work to my list of
things to think about.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyway, in honor of impending
Spring, I thought I would offer you
a deal.
This is a group of sweet seasonal birdhouses,
each embellished with my Olde Brass buttons as
 the opening of the house - a star, bee skep,
strawberry, and maple leaf.  These buttons
retail for $3.00 each.  I will send you the
publication plus all buttons for $15.50.
This includes the shipping.
Just email or call if you are interested.
I do have a limited number of these cute
frames.  You could get one frame and change
them out for the seasons.
Many Happy Stitches,
Sandra
They Start Young These Days
Good Afternoon Everyone!
This post has nothing to do with needlework, but
was just too cute not to share.  Do you have a
computer geek in your family?  Well, I do, in the
form of my son, Cameron.  Thank goodness for
that fact, or I wouldn't be doing this blogging thing.
Well, we might have one in the making.  Cameron
is so proud of his little nephew.
  Isn't this the cutest thing!
Just look at him sitting on the table holding his
foot.  He is mesmerized by the computer.
Avery ad Papa Sullivan on Skype.
It was such fun!
  Lehmer is feeling left out of the fun with
  me spending so much time in Richmond.
We're hoping this helps both of them.  He
misses seeing him and is afraid Avery will not
recognize him or his voice.  Avery is getting a
little afraid of strangers and strange voices.
I put the telephone up to his ear yesterday so
 Faye could talk to him.  Usually he turns to
the telephone, grabs it, and starts smiling.  Well,
I guess Faye's voice was unfamiliar and he broke
down in a puddle of tears.  It was awful and made
Faye feel terrible.  We know it is only a phase,
but we cannot have that happen to his Papa.  So
we'll continue to do this every few days.
Sometimes I just hate technology, but other
times it is wonderful.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Be back later with some needlework news!
Many Happy Stitches,
Sandra

Reprints 'A Plenty

Good Evening Everyone!
Well, I guess everyone is packing up what
they have left and preparing to head home
from Nashville.  I hope everyone had a wonderful
show and that you all have safe travels back home.
Probably tonight the internet will begin to fill with
all the wonderful new designs that were shown
 in Nashville.  I really did miss not being there
this year.  It is the only time I get to see my
old friends and make new ones.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have been going through old publications
that are now sold out and there are some that
I really feel need to be printed again.
Here are two that will reprinted soon.
~PRIMITIVE LANDSCAPES~
Some designs are classic and I think this is
one of them.  I published this in 1992 so
you can see how long I have loved sheep.
Hope you love this one too!
Three designs for
$10.00 + shipping
~~~~~~~~~~~~
~LAND OF PEACE AND PLENTY~

This one was published in 1990.  The tray is a
wedding design.  You probably cannot see it, but
our initials and wedding date are under the ground.
This sits on the side board in my dining room -
have never tired of it.
$10.00 + shipping
~~~~~~~~~~~~
~WELCOME EACH NEW DAY~
This is definitely being reprinted.  I
asked for your opinion on this one and had
many positive comments.
$9.00 + shipping
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I finished updating my Etsy Shoppe with
my newest designs.  Hope you see something
you like.  I will get the above in there soon, but
if you want anything before then, just email
or give us a call.
Many Happy Stitches,
Sandra

Loving Life!

Good Saturday Afternoon!
Hope you are all having a great day.  I'm home
and trying to make a dent in my ever-growing list.
Hope to upload all of my new things in my ETSY
Shoppe today.  Tomorrow I am dedicating to working
on the new Website.  It will still be quite a while
before it is done, but at least we have begun the
process.  I really hate this because it is going to
take away from my designing time, but in this
technological world we live it, it is a must.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do you want to smile?  If this doesn't make you
smile, then I don't know what will.
I'm titling this
"LOVING LIFE".
Not only for Avery but for Hollis and Paul.
He actually fell asleep without being in his
swaddle and slept for quite a while.  If you
are wondering what that thing is in his mouth,
well, it is a "Wub-A-Nub".  Hope I spelled
it correctly.  I thought it was the silliest thing I
had ever seen, but believe me it works.  Not
 only does it stay in place on a sleeping baby,
but they can reach for it themselves and
put it in their mouth.  Much easier than
chasing those little pacifiers.  He has three
of them with different little stuffed animals
attached to them.
Hope you enjoyed this adorable picture.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I plan to be back tomorrow with something
new to share.
Many Happy Stitches,
Sandra

Nashville News and A Question

Good Afternoon Everyone!
Well, the Nashville Trade Show is
this weekend.  My designs will be
shown by Hoffman Distributors
and Norden Crafts.
Hopefully, everyone will like them,
order them, and have them in their
shoppes soon.  If you cannot find my
things, you can get them from me.  I
am going to try to catch up my Etsy
Shoppe this weekend with all of my new
stuff, but if you don't do Etsy, just call or
email me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
 If you have known we very long, you know
that I like to paint.  Unfortunately, there is never
much time to devote to it, but through the years I
have accumulated a little stash of paintings.
Your opinion will be
greatly appreciated.
Do you think I should convert the three
I am showing you today to cross stitch,
prints etc?  I have some other ideas too, but
I won't bore you with them right now.
These are just a few I am considering at the
moment.  They are tiny little things ~ the
largest one only measures 2 1/2" X 2 1/4".
Of course, I can make them larger.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks for taking the time to look.
Many Happy Stitches,
Sandra

Ready To Ship!

Good Evening Everyone!
So much for a leisurely weekend.  I'm
 working!!  We are expecting our first snow storm
tomorrow, so I have to leave Fredericksburg
 early tomorrow before it starts to be
 sure I'm in Richmond to babysit Avery on
Monday morning.  Therefore, last night and all
day today I have been printing my new
publications for the Nashville Show.  If this snow
 storm wasn't predicted, I would have
 tomorrow too to get all of this finished.
NOT!!  I usually like Winter, until it gets in the
way of my plans.  I sound like a spoiled brat,
don't I.  Oh, well, never a
dull moment around here.  Believe it or not
I am not usually this far behind, but for
some reason my multi-tasking skills seem
to be on vacation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I thought I would let you see the final
products.  Hope you like them!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"MAKING MY HEART HAPPY"
Note the tiny "Heartlet" brass charms and the
adorable antiqued thimble.  The rick rack is
courtesy of R and R Reproductions.
"HOME ~ A HAVEN. . ."
There are two little dove charms available for
this sampler, as well as the frame.
"SPRING EGGS III"
This design features a "Tiny Carrot", a "Dragonfly"
and a "Tiny Bee" charm.  The "Nubby Yarn" is
available as well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope you are enjoying a great evening with
"Many Happy Stitches,
